NIGHTBIRDS (a.k.a. LET YOURSELF GO)

Ain't got the blues, I ain't homesick,
I've got to move away from this bore here.
I love these places where I am unknown,
Here I'm in phase to really let myself go.

Call me owl, call me vampire.
Night is the right time for nightbirds to fly.
I love those times when I am unknown,
Here I'm in phase to really let myself go.

Let yourself go...
Yeah let yourself go... Just how you know...

I never rely on anyone,
Here amonst strangers it doesn't seem wrong.
Surrounded by liars for much too long,
I can not believe, I am not that strong.

Call me owl, call me vampire.
But I live my life that way that I like.
And if I'm living just for tonight,
Night is the right time for nightbirds to fly.

Let yourself go...
Yeah let yourself go... Just how you know...

Original version (Audran / Soulmonkey):

Nightbirds (Soulmonkey / Number Nine Experiment) by Number Nine Experiment

In 2008, with Pentastar, we were working on a new song based on riffs brought by the guitarist Julien Stark, I decided to try these lyrics thinking it might fit...
So then, I eventually interchanged the verses...
After a couple of live performances, we were happy with the result.

Here is a live version recorded in October'2008 by Pentastar with:
Arnaud Schmitz: guitar & vocals
Julien Stark: guitar
Gab Helfenstein: bass
Eddy Bellatel: drums

Another demo of the song (Soulmonkey's version), with an alternative folk rock arrangement was released in November'2012 as bonus track on
"Psychotic Monkeys Planet" by Audran.
(All instruments performed by Arnaud Schmitz)

FEEL LIKE TRIPPIN'

Feel like travellin' million light years
On a motionless journey
Feel like I'd end up in an asylum
Feel like I'm falling in a hole up in the sky

Feel like I'm goin' so low down
Feel like I am insane
Feel like I'm goin' so low down,
low down ...

There's day outside, open the window,
Don't get so closed at home !
Let the sunshine inside of your eyes,
What's going on outside ? ...

Why are all these people running around ?
What's the melody humming inside ?
Why are all these people running around ?
They're running around, and I feel like trippin'
And I feel like trippin'
And I feel like trippin'

I feel ... like ... trippin', I'm trippin' ...
I feel ... like ... trippin', I'm trippin' ...

Music & lyrics written by Arnaud Schmitz (February'1998)

HYPOCRISY

When your smile is falling on your knees.
When the fire is taking on your lees.
When you run for cover all you see's...
What the people call... Hypocrisy...

The first version of the song appeared on Heaven's first self-titled demo, recorded in October'1995 with:

Over the years (and with different line-ups) the song has been re-arranged. Many different versions appeared; on the live "Ways Of Chaos" (1996),
on the demo tape "Stilltripinblue"(1998), and finally, on the LP "High Over Clouds" (1999) ...

Music & lyrics written by Arnaud Schmitz.

Recorded August'2002.
Released by Number Nine Experiment on the first EP: "No Time To Waste" (2004).

PARAMETRIC DOOMS

Nobody's really true when they are talking to you.
No one's behaviour's correct and they all want your respect.
And they already expect you to be like the rest.
They want under arrest, when you're restless...
When you're restless.

But all has changed, you're not the same.
And I can feel that this is real.
And I believe it's all your fault.

Music & lyrics written by Arnaud Schmitz.
Recorded November'2000.
Released by Number Nine Experiment on the first EP: "No Time To Waste" (2004).
(All instruments performed by Arnaud Schmitz)

LITTLE GOLDEN POINTS

These stars I have seen in the morning, are you and me so far,
and so near, as we watch them from here,
Oh, give me your come-back.

Maybe a new truth is spreading, and I want to sing,
I want to sing to you, I want to sing,
I want to sing ... to you ...

Maybe a new truth is spreading, and I want to sing,
I want to sing to you, I want to sing,
I want to sing ... to you ...

Music written by Arnaud Schmitz / Lyrics written by Jeff Bonischo.
Recorded July'2002.
Released by Number Nine Experiment on the first EP: "No Time To Waste" (2004).

BEAT PROPHETS

Quentin broke his watch, building his own time in the Sound and the Fury.
William's talking 'bout humanity's failure, problems of time and fatality.
Americanization of the world, positivist cult of science.
It's the Brave New World, Aldous told us.
And the modern world in Eyeless in Gaza.

An ironic vision of the world,
where humanism and culture
are threaten by those in charge to defend it.
You should read...
On The Road or the Dharma Bums,
The Rosy Crucifixion, The Air-Conditioned Nightmare.

Music & lyrics written by Arnaud Schmitz.

Recorded March'2000.
Released by Number Nine Experiment on the first EP: "No Time To Waste" (2004).
(All instruments performed by Arnaud Schmitz)

PILLS (a.k.a. PILLS & THRILLS)

Well I know that you have a lot of thrills,
When you go out on saturday and take your pills.
Well you know what I told you,
One day you will have to stop before it's too late,
Before it's too late! Yeah!...

No you don't really need such a drug
If you want to go dance all night in a nite-club!
You look so paranoid, you act like a thug.
You look like a rag. Oh! What a drag!

Music & lyrics written by Arnaud Schmitz.
Recorded by the last line-up of Heaven in April 2002.
First released by Number Nine Experiment on the first EP: "No Time To Waste" (2004):

Originally written for Heaven, this song was played very often by different line-ups of Number Nine Experiment in concerts and was always featured on the tracklists through the years.
It remained that way with Pentastar. In january 2008 they re-recorded it for their first LP: "Electrical Wire Chopped Inside":

SPRING IS BACK

Can't you see the sun casting its movie again ? ...
Can't you remember when we were insane ? ...
Why don't you deal with what you feel ? ...
Why don't you deal with what you feel ? ...

We're thinking of the past with a bitter taste.
But we're still so dumb, even knowing ...
That there's no time to waste !
Why don't you deal with what you feel ? ...
Why don't you deal with what you feel ? ...

Why don't you deal with what you feel ? ...
...

Music & lyrics written by Arnaud Schmitz.

Recorded March 2000.
Released by Number Nine Experiment on the first EP: "No Time To Waste" (2004).
(All instruments performed by Arnaud Schmitz)

THIS FEELING

I am upset, because there's always clouds in my skies.
I have lost the ability to be so casual.
Is there some way to choose if we win or we lose,
or we ever get used to this feeling?... This feeling!

Got hidden by a mandatory disguise.
Now it seems we have found our holes in the ground.
Is there some way to choose if we win or we lose,
or we ever get used to this feeling?... This feeling!

Music & lyrics written by Arnaud Schmitz.
Recorded in July 2001.
Released by Number Nine Experiment on the first EP: "No Time to Waste" (2004).
(All instruments performed by Arnaud Schmitz)

HOLE IN THE SKY

I hit my head against the walls, but I don't feel the pain.
I take a look at all these colours, but now it seems so pale.
I miss the girl that I don't know. Oh! I miss her so! ...

But I'll get high, dig that hole in the sky.

I keep on watering inner flowers, as if it would not fade.
I keep on listening to all their words, as long as I can stand it.
But don't you know that I'm dying slowly, and you will rot with me.

But I'll get high, dig that hole in the sky.

Music & lyrics written by Arnaud Schmitz. 2001.

This song was written to be interpreted with my band of the era: Heaven.
The song was played only once in public by the band (in an instrumental version), opening a concert in St. Avold, in August 2001. A demo (with vocals) was recorded with the last line-up of Heaven (without Jeff) in April 2002.
After the split of the band, the recording was released on the first EP by Number Nine Experiment: "No Time To Waste" (2004). There are two live versions by Number Nine Experiment on: "Jam Sessions at the Irish Bar" (2006).
A video was designed for the song by Arnaud, and directed by one of his friends, Michel, in June 2002.
